LIFE ON THE ITHACA

WELCOME TO THE ITHACA!

EDGAR
The Ithaca's artificial intelligence (heavy on the artificial) is named Edgar. His hologram looks like THIS:

Aside from being polite and very cheerful, Edgar is kind of dumb and doesn't know much, mostly parroting things he's been told and giving a good natured "I'm sorry, I have no idea what you're talking about!" in response to questions. He's more than adequate to just follow orders and run the ship's various processes, though. Edgar is forever upbeat and peppy, and is rather annoying for this reason.

THE ITHACA
The Ithaca is a ship. Unfortunately, nobody knows what kind. It just is. It has enough space and support to comfortably hold a crew of up to about fifteen people before becoming cramped and having to sleep in shifts due to the limited number of bunks.

It looks something like this, though it's a good deal smaller:

ABOARD THE ITHACA

The Cockpit
Looks kinda like this.
The cockpit is where the ship can be flown manually. Weapon systems can be controlled from here on the right terminal but it is less precise than doing it from under the turrets. The pilot and gunner can use the ship's PA from here. There are also extra seats for backseat driving and peering over shoulders.

The Captain's Quarters
The Ithaca may not have a captain, but she still has the captain's quarters. This is the ship's master bedroom. It's located above the cockpit and has a nice view of spaaaace, an actually comfortable bed, and a personal bathroom.
Expect to have to fight over it if you want it for yourself.

The Medical Bay
The Ithaca's medbay is reasonably advanced and probably good enough to save you from fatal injury provided other crew members are quick, can suss out how to use what they have, and want to keep you alive. It's a small area and home to a handful of beds, as well as a wall of cupboards and compartments for materials. There are things on arms hanging slightly ominously from the ceiling that are controlled by panels on each bed that also monitor the patient. It's not idiot proof but it's better than nothing.

Navigation
Navigation is the round room a little back from the cockpit, home to the ship's star map. This is a pretty impressive piece of hologram that displays the whole galaxy in as much or as little detail as needed, emitted from a large round kiosk in the sunken center of the room. Around the edge of the sunken area is a ring of padded seats, almost sofa-like. This makes it a reasonably good place to lounge. Coordinates can be given to Edgar from the map, though it takes a little getting used to "touching" the hologram to move around the stars.

Weapons
The Ithaca is not a fighting ship, but it does have a gun on either wing. Not the best guns ever, but they can do some damage and their ammo of choice is LASERS. The guns can be controlled from the cockpit, or have individual gunners in the gunpod in each wing. They're kind of awkward to get to, requiring scrambling along a narrow passage with a very low ceiling, but they're more accurate and double the gunners means double the focus. The guns have a full 360 degrees of rotation horizontally and can aim straight "up" from the wing, but their ability to point "downward" is limited.

Crew Quarters
This is your house. Pretty much. Characters all bunk in the same room, unfortunately. This is as awkward or unawkward as they make it. There are also men's and women's bathroom facilities/showers, and a washing/drying machine that won't destroy most normal clothing.
The crew's lockers are also in the crew quarters, but they don't have anything in them to start with except the old crew's spare clothes.

Crew Lounge
The lounge is actually where you're supposed to chill out instead of around navigation, though the lounge lacks the perk of letting you yell stuff at the pilot while you chill. There's comfortable furniture, a holo screen that could probably be persuaded to display movies, games, or maybe space TV, tables, and the kitchen off to one side. The kitchen isn't the best equipped thing in the galaxy, mostly used to rehydrate travel rations, but you could theoretically try to cook for real in there as it does have all the necessary appliances. There's also a refrigerator.

Cargo
The cargo area is at the back of the ship, before the engines. The Ithaca's cargo hold is big enough to carry a good sized shipment of just about anything, the bottom of the hold lowers into a ramp to allow it to be loaded.

The Main Airlock
The airlock is what it sounds like. It's also where the Ithaca's away shuttle is located, carefully locked down. It acts as the vestibule and decontamination chamber upon re-entry to the ship.

The Secondary Airlock
Located at the rear of the ship. This airlock is, counterintuitively, the large one and is the one you threaten to throw people out of.

Engineering
At the very rear of the ship though just before and above the secondary air lock are the ship's engines and jump drive. It's advisable not to mess with these, because not even Edgar can tell you how they work. It's usually kind of noisy and rather warm back here.
